100 years ago

A Dundee lady who was rather fond of cats fed them a little to luxuriousl­y as complaints of excess wasted food were reported to a Dundee Food Committee group. Inspector AM Imrie of the Weights and Measures department told the story of Miss Shaw who fed her five cats several pints of milk, 3lb of chopped meat, oatmeal, bread and cooked fish. The gluttonous amount of food was left outside Miss Shaw’s house for her felines and any stray cats also in need of feeding.

50 years ago

Race horse owner PB Raymond, nicknamed “Teazy-Weazy” was denied entry into the Royal Ascot and forced to withdraw his horse from the prestigiou­s race. Mr Raymond who asked the Duke of Norfolk for an explanatio­n for the withdrawal was denied such a courtesy. The unsatisfie­d owner, who arrived before the first race with his wife was force to return home with his prize horse Bandeau Wig. Mr Raymond was denied entry on the grounds of not having “applied for his voucher”.

25 years ago

A police raid ensued following a terrifying robbery of a local post office. Fife authoritie­s were on the hunt for three masked individual­s who had held a dozen workers at gunpoint. The armed robbery was one of a series in the area in which the perpetrato­rs had sawn-off shotguns and forced the workers to lie face down on the ground. The criminals fled on foot towards as police set up road blocks to intercept their supposed getaway cars. . The roadblock halted attempts were met with failure.

One year ago

Tesco announced its plans to create new jobs for Dundee. The supermarke­t brand aimed to bring 250 jobs to Dundee whose news followed a statement form First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who said she would work Lloyds Banking Group to do the same for an equal number of their employees. The Lloyds Banking employees had lost their jobs earlier in the week. Simultaneo­usly, Sturgeon announced funding of $4.5 million for Scottish Enterprise after visiting Dundee’s Michelin factory.
