Loch Leven walk by Fife teacher with Parkinson’s disease

-

Walkers are being urged to put their best foot forward and join the fundraising efforts of a Fife teacher who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The event is taking place on the banks of Loch Leven to raise money for charity Parkinson’s UK to help fund their vital research and support.

Janet Kerr and her husband, from Lochgelly, will be joined by their four children as they take on the six-mile challenge on August 26.

The brave grandmother, diagnosed with the disease two years ago when she was just 47, is taking part in the Walk for Parkinson’s event to say thank you and raise awareness.

She said: “Exercise is as important to me as my Parkinson’s medication and I find it really helps me deal with my symptoms.

“Despite the Parkinson’s I’m fitter than ever and can’t wait for the family to join me in what will be a fantastic walk at Loch Leven.

“Family walks are a great opportunity to chat and have a laugh away from the TV and technology that can sometimes can be a distraction at home.

“Parkinson’s UK has been a fantastic support to me and my family since I was diagnosed and we love getting involved at events as a way of recognising that support and saying thank you.

“As well as walking for such a great cause there’s a real feel-good atmosphere at all the charity’s events and I’d urge as many people as possible to sign up and come and join us on the day.”

A shorter two-mile walk on the banks of the Loch is also on offer.
