Another busy day in the sheep lines saw Dunblane-based Ally Baird achieve a hat-trick in the Zwartbles ring, winning his third championship in a row at the breed’s National show.

A builder by trade, Mr Baird established his flock just seven years ago and now runs 35 ewes in his Greystone flock.

His winner this time was the same ewe that stood champion in 2016, Greystone Crannachan, a two-crop by Greystone Alan.

Over in the Shetland section, another multiple winner, Rena Douglas, secured her seventh Highland Show breed championship.

Her star of the ring was Ivy Dene Patroneus, a three-shear white ram by the 2016 breed champion, Rigg Gareth.

The family runs 70 ewes at Cedar Cottage, Craigrothie, Cupar.

The Texel section proved busy as ever in the morning, with spectators crowding the ring to witness a ram lamb from the Knox family, of Mid Haddo, Fyvie, Turriff, take the overall award.

That one, a son of the 60,000gns Clinterty Yuga Khan, is destined for sale at Lanark in August.

Following on in that ring, the Beltex contest was led by Aberdeenshire’s Stuart Wood, who was winning for the first time in six years showing.

Woodies Call Girl, a gimmer, is by Carrigans Bob Lee Swagger.

The Wight family, of Midlock, Crawford, topped off an extremely successful show by taking the championships in the coloured Bluefaced Leicester and Scotch Mule sections, following on from their Blackface win the previous day.
