Round Table members go the extra mile for worthy cause

-

Members of Cupar Round Table have been congratulated for once again taking on their annual 50-mile hike from the Forth Rail Bridge to the Tay Rail Bridge at the weekend.

So far the hardy trekkers have managed to raise £2,325 towards their initial £3,000 target for Fife Young Carers.

This is in addition to the £9,902 already collected for good causes since the event began in 2015.

Fife Young Carers supports children and young people aged eight to 18, who are responsible for an ill or disabled relative.

Young carers look after parents, grandparents or siblings who are sick or have a disability which affects the whole family.

While cooking, cleaning, giving medicines and doing many of the things parents normally do, they can miss out on a lot of the childhood experiences which others take for granted.

Fife Young Carers supports them and their families and tries to ensure they still have time to be children.

Liberal Democrat MSP for North East Fife Willie Rennie and North East Fife SNP MP Stephen Gethins met up with the walkers along the route at the weekend and both were extremely impressed with their efforts.

Mr Rennie, who is a keen runner himself and enjoys the great outdoors, said: “I was delighted to catch up members as they made their way from Kingskettle to Ladybank and huge credit is due to them for completing this tough walk in very warm weather.”
