MSP hails birthday celebrations
The official Glenrothes 70th birthday celebrations have earned the praise of an MSP.
SNP politician Jenny Gilruth took part in a special event at Warout Stadium on Saturday.
The gathering featured live music, a children’s event and representation from community groups across the town as they came together to celebrate the milestone.
Miss Gilruth said: “It was an absolute pleasure to attend the town’s official birthday celebrations on Saturday.
“There was a real festival feel to the occasion – but it was also great to see young people enjoying themselves on the bouncy castles and trampolines.
“I took the time to speak to community groups including the foodbank, Auchmuty Community Garden and the British Legion.
“It was great to see so many familiar faces celebrating Glenrothes’ special birthday and enjoying the glorious sunshine.
“My thanks go to all involved in organising the event and to Fife Police for all their help on the day.”
Miss Gilruth has also lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament to mark the special occasion.
It noted that the town, established in 1948, is home to Fife’s third largest population.
She also mentioned that Glenrothes was the first of Scotland’s new towns to have a resident town artist and that the many sculptures have become internationally renowned.
