Lunchtime lifesaver launched
East Neuk First Responders have launched a 15-minute lunchtime lifesaver.
The team are visiting companies in the area and encouraging workers to brush up on their skills and learn more about the GoodSAM app which alerts qualified volunteers to medical emergencies.
Co-ordinator Gillian Duncan said: “We visit the businesses where staff can ‘have a go’ at CPR and using a defibrillator during their lunch break. It only takes 15 minutes.
“We also encourage them to download the GoodSAM alerter app and use it in life-threatening emergencies to call an ambulance.
“This automatically alerts nearby qualified medics who can deliver lifesaving treatment until first responders or an ambulance arrives.”
Gillian said every second was crucial in cases of cardiac arrest, and having volunteers in the community could make all the difference in an emergency.
“We now have GoodSAM responders available in the East Neuk 24/7 who can arrive in under three minutes to the majority of incidents, which has huge lifesaving potential,” she added.
The first lunchtime session was held in the Anstruther Boathouse. Proprietor Linda Thomson said her team were delighted to have been given the chance to take part.
