Bankhead Farming team’s champion day at Stirling

Caledonian Marts Ltd, Stirling, sold 866 prime lambs, cast ewes and tups and young sheep. Included in the sale was the show of Texel lambs in conjunctio­n with the Scottish Texel Sheep Breeders Club. The show was judged by R Lawson, East Mains, Newbigging.

The champion came from Bankhead Farming Partners, weighed 46.6kg and sold for £120. Reserve champion, from G Whyte, Pett, weighed 43.6kg and sold for £115.

Texel X Scotch Mule up to 42kg: 1. Wester Kepdowrie, 40.6kg @ £81.50; 2. Wester Kepdowrie, 41.6kg @ £82.50; 3. Easter Coates, 40.6kg @ £86.50

Texel X Scotch Mule over 42.1kg: 1. Pett, 43.6kg @ £115 (Reserve Champion) ; 2. Tillyrie, 43.6kg @ £96; 3. Easter Coates, 43.6kg @ £96

Texel X Any Other Breed up to 42kg: 1. Skeoch, 41kg @ £93. Texel X Any Other Breed over 42.1kg: 1. Bankhead Farming Partners, 46.6kg @ £120 (Champion); 2. Skeoch, 46kg @ £107; 3. Bankhead Farming Partners, 48.3kg @ £110. Outwith the show, top price of the day was shared between a 51kg Texel from Dyke, Milton of Campsie, and a 47kg Texel from Meikle Seggie, Milnathort, both fetching £110. Top ppk went to Easter Cash, Strathmigl­o, for a 43kg Texel at 228ppkg. Overall sale average for 351 Spring lambs was 206.6p (-10.9p on the week). Spring Lambs Texel X £108 Easter Cash (Twice); Texel £105 Pett; Beltex £104 Parks of Aldie; Suffolk X £101 Bankhead Farming Partners; Suffolk £100 Kinnaird (Kirriemuir).

Also forward were 515 Cast Ewes, Tups & Young Sheep. Heavy Ewes averaged £84.01 selling to £126 for a Texel from Whitehills, Crossgates. Export Ewes averaged £58.89.
