Council pledges support for young people in the workplace

-

Fife Council has launched its Pledge to Young People to mark the Year of Young People.

The local authority has made the pledge to underline its commitment to offering young Fifers a workplace where they can hone their skills and grow their careers.

Council chief executive Steve Grimmond said: “It’s important to us that youngsters leaving school or further education recognise that we are a top-class employer.

“Fife Council offers a whole range of job opportunities and work placement experiences. We want every young person with us to use their experience to develop and find out about different employment options.”

The council said the move meant young people working for the authority would be supported in their learning and given help in developing a range of transferable skills, personal qualities and competencies which would contribute towards their future employability.

In return, the council said it expected young employees to follow usual work ethics including showing positive interest in the organisation, a commitment to the services it provides and a willingness to learn.

Mr Grimmond said: “Helping them to make an informed decision about their future and providing open and honest feedback is part and parcel of their development, as is advising them on accessing jobs, supporting them through the recruitment process, application forms and interview skills.

“We recognise that job retention creates a more informed workforce, a workforce who understand the pressures we work under but who can still put the customer first.”
