Faster broadband for residents

-

Virgin Media has announced a broadband upgrade in the west of Dunfermline.

The company said up to 4,200 homes in the Headwell and Beveridgewell areas would benefit from the investment, which is part of its Project Lightning network expansion.

Work to deliver faster download speeds in the town is under way and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

Scotland regional director for Virgin Media Julie Agnew said: “Time-strapped families and small businesses across Dunfermline will soon be benefiting from our brilliant broadband service.

“Giving them greater speeds will enable them to do the things they need to do and love doing more quickly and easily.”

Councillor Helen Law, who is convener of Dunfermline area committee, welcomed the move.

She said: “This is positive news for Dunfermline.

“With the rise of online services good connectivity is essential as it allows businesses and homes to make the most of the internet.”

Mrs Law said the move complemented the activities of the Fairer Fife Commission, which is working to tackle inequalities.

The Labour councillor added: “We are committed to a fairer Fife that is ambitious, connected and empowered – increased availability of broadband is helping local people be better connected online.”
