Refurbishm­ent delayed, but facelift to be more extensive

Plans to refurbish Levenmouth pool and sports centre have been delayed.

But the centre will now undergo a more extensive facelift when work does start.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust proposed to deliver a new look gym and fitness studios.

Working with Fife Council, the trust planned to transform the centre’s gym and studio spaces to give customers improved, dedicated spaces to make getting active even more enjoyable.

Now, the centre will benefit from additional works which will see upgraded toilets, reception area and decoration to corridors.

It is anticipate­d the centre will now close in October, a month later than originally planned. It will remain closed for around five months while work is completed.

Customers are being advised of alternativ­e trust venues to minimise disruption.

There are also plans to move regular classes held in the sports hall to other sites.

The refurbishm­ent is part of a Fife Council investment in local sports facilities in Leven and North Queensferr­y as well as Dalgety Bay where work is already under way.

The trust’s operations manager Scott Urquhart said the work will deliver significan­t improvemen­ts for customers thanks to a more spacious gym, with almost double the floor space of the old one, fitted out with state-of-the-art equipment.

He added the proposal will also deliver a new dedicated aerobic studio space which will allow for a wider choice of fitness classes and also disabled access improvemen­ts, refurbishm­ent of changing areas, including showers and toilets.
