Packed programme of events and performanc­es lined up for festival

Organisers of this year’s Crail Festival have promised a packed and varied programme of activities for all ages later this month.

Now in its 34th year, the event will run from July 18 to 28 at a number of venues.

Former Scots Makar Liz Lochhead will make two appearance­s on July 20, participat­ing in an episode of May Island Discs before an evening of monologues, poems, other writings and musings.

The Five Star Comedy Evening on July 23 will also feature Paul Sneddon aka Vladimir McTavish, along with Robin Grainger, JoJo Sutherland, Susan Morrison and Mark Nelson.

Alongside the hardy annuals such as the art exhibition, putting green and festival quiz, there will be a range of activities for children with print-making, puppet and mask-making, art, drama, storytelli­ng and krafty kids workshops.

For more competitiv­e souls, there will be crabbing, putting and sand castle competitio­ns, along with archery, junior golf skills, a fossil hunt, a rock pool guddle and the Dundee Science Centre’s Rocket Science sessions.

Music features prominentl­y and The Blueswater, Rose Room, Glaswegian saxophonis­t Konrad Wiszniewsk­i, Emily Maguire, Robbie Greig and Friends, and Polish soprano Bogna Forkiewicz are on the bill.

The Bernicia Suite will also tell the story of tragic loss at sea more than a 100 years ago, while the headline act is Under Fire, performing songs from the 60s to contempora­ry.
