East Neuk Friends of CHAS urge people through the garden gate

-

A fundraising group which has raised thousands for CHAS will throw open the garden gates of Kingsbarns later this month.

The East Neuk Friends of CHAS, Children’s Hospices Acoss Scotland, have for many years organised the Hidden Gardens in Kingsbarns project.

This year it will be open to the public from noon to 5pm on Sunday July 22.

Maps and tickets will be on sale in The Square.

Once again the gardeners of the village have been busily working in their gardens to raise funds for the charity.

The annual event, featuring 12 gardens this year, is popular and visitors return year after year to see the changes in the gardens and to visit any new gardens.

This year two new gardens will be open, one of which is the Kingsbarns school and community garden.

There will be the usual plant sales, book stall, gifts and quiz.

The entry fee is £4 and accompanied children have free entry.

Refreshments will be available in several gardens and all donations, entry fee and quiz fee will go to the charity.

At its annual meeting, the group handed a cheque for £3,400 to Hannah Gell, community fundraiser from CHAS.

Over the years £60,208 has been given to CHAS from the hidden gardens and the Christmas bazaar events.

Ms Gell gave the group an update on the work CHAS does, not only for the children, but also their siblings and parents.

She explained although the charity was able to support around 400 children and their families at the moment, there are 15,400 others still in need of help.
