Rewind Festival

Scone Palace, July 20-22

The grounds of Scone Palace are all set to host their second major music event in a matter of weeks.

Noel Gallagher, Simple Minds and Amy Macdonald were among the stars who dazzled at BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend at the historic venue in May, with a whole host of 1980s legends now primed for Perthshire’s biggest annual festival.

Hipsway get the retro bash under way with a campers-only show next Friday, before The Skids make the short journey from Dunfermline to open the main stage the following day. Roachford, Peter Hook, Howard Jones, Kim Appleby, Tiffany, Roland Gift and headliners OMD are other highlights.

The Sunday line-up includes Status Quo, Bonnie Tyler, Midge Ure, Heaven 17, Imagination, A Flock Of Seagulls, Wendy James, UB40, Boomtown Rats and Selecter.

While many are established Rewind favourites, Californian singer Tiffany can’t wait to finally make her belated festival debut after avoiding air travel for almost a decade. “I’m excited to get involved and be there, it’s just one big ball of fun,” she says.

“The line-up is amazing and when you see these performers, they haven’t missed a step. A lot of them do the same thing I’m doing, which is put out new music, so for me as an artist they have my full support.

“I just love seeing people still loving what they’re doing and the fan connection — that’s what music’s really all about.”

Tiffany, who scored a number one hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1988 aged just 16 with her cover of Tommy James & The Shondells’ I Think We’re Alone Now, admits to being an ardent fan of electro wiz Jones. “He’s one of my favourites,” she adds.

“I’ve probably been doing shows with him on the American side for the last 15 years or so and he never disappoints. I was a huge fan before and still am.

“I was twirling around my room at nine, 10, 11 hoping to be a singer, so to be able to say I know him is a dream come true .”

The 46-year-old’s Rewind set will include her biggest hits plus new song Beautiful, from her forthcoming album Pieces Of Me – but no surprise 80s covers. “They’re always a risk with me,” she says.

“Although they’re fun, I definitely don’t want to get the message out there that I never recorded anything that was my own. I’m very excited about the new album. I co-produced it and I’m really excited to start living the music.

“Definitely in 90-minute shows we have a few blasts from the past but in a short set like this we’re going to stick to the hits and a new song in a high-energy set.”
