A pizza firm is appealing for golfers at The Open to add their signatures to its wall of fame – and to sample the new golf-themed menu at the same time.

Personalities from The Open in 2007 started the custom of autographing the wall of the Titanic Pizza Company in Carnoustie.

The signatures of Jim Furyk, Chad Campbell, Steve Stricker and Vaughn Taylor are now protected beneath Perspex for posterity.

Golfers from the women’s Ricoh Open in 2011 were also invited to sign up and the wall now boasts the autographs of Paula Creamer, Christina Kim, Karen Stupples and Pat Hurst.

The firm has also put together a golfthemed menu for the event, which includes pizzas called On the Green, The 147, The Birdie and Fore!

Titanic Pizza boss Marie Fagan said she was hoping to add a few more celebrities before this year’s Open is over.

“Although we have had a number of caddies come in, we haven’t had any of the golfers yet,” she said.

“We would love to see some of them so they can add their autographs to our wall of fame.”

Marie said business had really picked up in the run-up to the event, expected to attract more than 170,000 golf fans to the area.

She said: “The last Open was great fun and we are hoping it will be the same this time around.

“It’s not just the boost in trade that the tournament brings, it’s also great to see new faces going round the town and people enjoying themselves – there’s a real buzz about the place and it is fantastic.

“We are working really hard to satisfy demand and we are opening an extra six-and-a-half hours a day.”

The company has embraced The Open and is taking part in the Carnoostival festival, organised for local people to celebrate the return of the tournament to the town.

Marie has put together a pizzathrowing competition as part of the festivities, adding: “We were delighted to get involved with the festival, which is great for the town.”
