Gall and Buchan triumph in Tom Adams Quaich

-

Rescobie Loch Club members competed for the Tom Adams Quaich in a pairs competition on Saturday, writes our angling correspondent.

The winners were Sye Gall and Ian Buchan with 12 fish for 26lb.

A total of 29 for 65lb and 20 returned were caught by the 20 rods.

Visiting clubs doing well this week included Balbeggie AC, with 14 rods landing three brownies for 9lb 5oz and 18 rainbows for 53lb and the Ferry Fly Dressers who brought eight rods and caught three brownies for 6lb and six rainbows for 17lb 6oz.

The heaviest fish was a 4lb rainbow caught by Kenny Dickson.

Best bags of the week were caught by AlanWood who took four brownies for 15lb 4oz, K Stewart four for 14lb, Keith Robertson four for 14lb, Frankie Keith four for 12lb 7oz and Harry Gauld four for 11lb 12oz.

There are still a few places left for the Maggies Event at the loch on Sunday.

If you wish to compete contact the boatshed. There will be prizes for the top three places, a raffle and refreshments before and after fishing will be provided.

The loch is fishing well with good numbers being caught.

The brownies put in last week are starting to “take” and are providing good sport.

The locals are looking forward to the arrival of the weed cutting machine next Monday.

Hopefully the loch will be much clearer within a few days. If you can help with this project contact the boatshed.

Fishing has proved a wee bit challenging this past week at LOCH LEVEN.

High water temperatures have resulted in a dip in activity, although some fish have been seen on the surface but mostly later in the evening and fish are not being easily tempted.

Light winds have been variable in direction and this has been a contributing factor too.

Having said that, the best areas to try are still near to all the drop offs,

North and East Buoys are the “go to” areas, especially in a good fresh south west wind.

The South Deeps are now beginning to show some of the smaller trout we normally see round about mid-July onwards.

Some very good hatches of fly are coming off everything from Caenis, Silverhorn, Sedge and some big “juicy” Yellow Owl right at dusk and a few trout are up for them but not in the numbers you would describe as a “rise” of fish.

Pike anglers are finding it harder to contact any pike, which is par for the course in relation to seasons past.

Despite the warm weather and water temperatures NEWTON FARMTROUTFISHERY is still fishing steady.

First thing in the morning or later in the evenings are doing well.

Dunfermline angler Dave Black landed 30 fish in two outings this week, while Jock Leslie, Forfar, fishing small size 16 hares lugs, has had more than 30 fish in three days.

Despite hot conditions RAITH LAKE FLY FISHERY is fishing well, with more than 40 fish killed over the weekend and more than 50 returned.

To celebrate the first year opening the fishery will be running a special offer between July 23-31 with a free Scierra pro cap with every eight-hourfour fish kill ticket. C&R is £10 a session.
