Surprise as Lennon names McGinn in squad
Hibernian will ensure John McGinn would be ineligible for Celtic’s Champions League qualification bid — should he join the Scottish champions — after they included the in-demand midfielder in their party to face NSI Runavik tomorrow night.
The club have rejected two bids from the Hoops for their prize asset, with the most recent offer totalling £2 million.
It is understood Hibs are seeking closer to £4m, despite the fact his contract expires next summer. Celtic are expected to launch a third swoop for McGinn, while suitors south of the border are weighing up their options.
The speculation surrounding McGinn’s future fuelled suggestions that Hibs may choose to rest him as they complete the formalities of progressing past Runavik following their 6-1 win at home last week.
However, McGinn, who sat out the first leg six days ago with a thigh strain, was part of the group that touched down in the Faroe Islands last night and is fit to play.
Meanwhile, striker Simon Murray was left at home as he edges closer to an Easter Road exit.
The 26-year-old is understood to be on the cusp of completing a shock switch to South Africa after Hibs accepted a bid from an unnamed top-flight club.
Paul Hanlon was also omitted from the squad as he nurses a slight muscle strain.
