Respects paid to popular Silver Fox of biker community

A biker who died following a tragic accident last Friday has been named as Andrew Murray, from Fife.

Known as Andy, the 53-year-old Methil man was killed following a onevehicle collision on the A93 between Glenshee and Braemar at around 1.45pm.

The popular Fife Council electrician was well-known in the biker community, which had nicknamed him the Silver Fox.

He had been out on his Suzuki motorcycle when the accident happened.

He was pronounced dead a short time later and the road was closed for some time to allow police to carry out accident investigation work. His devastated family have paid tribute to him and thanked those who assisted in the immediate aftermath of the crash.

In a statement they said: “Andy was an electrician with Fife Council and was a keen motorcyclist who was active in charity work with the local biker community.

“He was known to his biker friends as the Silver Fox.

“He was well-liked and will be sorely missed by everyone, especially his mother, sister and brother.

“They would like to thank his friends, the passing doctor who stopped to give assistance, the police officers and emergency services who attended at the scene.”

Mr Murray’s death came less than a fortnight after a 65-year-old woman died on the same stretch of road near Spittal of Glenshee, also in an accident involving motorbikes.

She had been a passenger on a BMW motorcycle when it was in collision with a Triumph machine five miles south of Braemar.

Andy Murray’s family have thanked those who helped him in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
