Falkland will host its annual traditional music festival over the weekend of August 10 to 12.

The three-day event will include a ceilidh dance, concerts, competitions, workshops, a talk, and instrumental and song sessions where everyone is encouraged to play or sing in an informal setting.

A number of top flight guests have been booked to perform, lead workshops and judge the competitions.

Guests include fiddler Marie Fielding, husband and wife singers Kevin and Ellen Mitchell and bothy ballad singer Allan Taylor, who missed out through ill health last year.

Piper Hamish Moore will be there as will leading folklorist and singer Margaret Bennett who will also give a talk.

Two leading accordion players, Gary Sutherland and Dave Husband, will be there.

Local singing group Forgaitherin, who are all members of Glenfarg Folk Club, will be performing.

Organiser Erika Cragg said: “The festival has gone from strength to strength and we are sure that this year’s festival – the sixth – will be just as successful as in previous years.

“We are keen to encourage people to enter the competitions for singing, fiddle and accordion. Competitions are a good way for all ages and standards to gain experience.”
