Tough start in offing for Stars and Flyers

Fife Flyers and Dundee Stars face a tough opening weekend in the Elite League.

Stars host Belfast Giants (7pm) in Challenge Cup Group A, while Fife entertain Glasgow Clan (7.15pm) on Saturday September 8.

Only 24-hours later, Omar Pacha’s Stars entertain Glasgow (5pm), while Fife square-up to Belfast Giants at Kirkcaldy (6.30pm).

Stars and Flyers will meet in eight Auld Rivalry fixtures this season. Three double-headers will be played before Christmas, with the final two games in February.

The first clash takes place in Kirkcaldy on September 15 before a return leg in Dundee on September 16.

Stars close out the regular season with an away doublehead­er, firstly in Belfast on March 30, before travelling south to Guildford to take on Flames on March 31.

Todd Dutiaume’s Flyers face their first league action at Sheffield Steelers on Wednesday September 12 (7.30pm).

Fife’s first home league game is against Belfast on Saturday, September 22 (7.15pm).

Stars are then hosting Manchester Storm the following day (5pm).

The final weekend of the season sees Fife in Glasgow on March 30.

And, on Sunday March 31 Fife are at home to Glasgow (6.30pm).

League chairman Tony Smith said: “While we’ve sadly lost Edinburgh Capitals, the 11 teams are gearing up for what promises to be another exciting few months ahead.

“Now the fans can look ahead and plan their trips accordingl­y,” he added.

Ticketing informatio­n for the September Challenge Cup and EIHL fixtures will be released in due course.
