Teeing off new sociable golf venture for women in Fife

-

A Dunfermline golf club has scored another first.

Canmore Golf Club has introduced a ladies six-hole Tuesday golf membership.

Fun, social golf is on offer every Tuesday in what organisers say is a relaxed and friendly environment.

No handicap is required and social activities are being arranged off the course as well.

Lady captain Irene Faulconbridge said: “Unlike many golf clubs, we have a very active ladies section at Canmore playing 18 and ninehole competitions on a Tuesday.

“The six-hole membership allows ladies an alternative option to play fun, social golf outwith the competition environment.”

Club manager Mike Healy said: “Canmore Golf Course is unique compared to other golf courses, with the first six holes of our 18-hole course returning to the clubhouse, creating an opportunity to attract a wide range of ladies and greater family participation, for ladies and families who have limited time at a reasonable price.”

Canmore was one of the first golf clubs to introduce an under-30s membership which has now reaped the benefits with more than 20% of the membership found in this category, bucking another trend of young people not joining golf clubs.

The club, in Venturefair Avenue, feels the schemes can provide exercise and the chance to interact with other people.

Women may find themselves without a partner, or feeling isolated with young children or elderly relatives to care for, tied to their workplace or low in self esteem.

It is hoped the sport can break down these barriers.
