Housing proposal for office site

-

Plans have been put forward to turn the site of a former office building into housing.

A development company hopes to turn a disused office building at Walmer Drive, Dunfermline, into a number of new properties for the area.

The £3.3 million investment from Two Knights Developments would see 27 homes built on the site.

The current building would accommodate nine of the proposed homes, while a second unit has been earmarked for the rear, where the current park sits, to provide a further 18.

The office building is currently owned by Fife Council but has been empty since 2011 and no suitable use has been found for it since. A report from the developers said: “In economic terms, it is not considered to be viable as an office refurbishment within the local market and a failure to invest will see the fabric deteriorate and the property left prone to vandalism.”

The design would see seven two-bedroom flats and two two-bedroom duplexes in the current building.

The new building would have 16 one and two-bedroom flats and two two-bedroom penthouses created over five floors. The existing undercover parking area will be totally refurbished and additional surface parking will be provided.

If planning permission is granted within the next couple of months, developers say work could start before the end of the year.
