Brechin told to show thrashing was a blip

Darren Dods has called on his Brechin City players to prove that their midweek collapse against Dunfermline was an early-season “blip”.

The Glebe Park men were hammered 7-1 on their own pitch on Wednesday night but Dods had seen enough in their previous matches to suggest that it was a one-off.

And now they intend to show it against Dundee this afternoon.

“It was one of those days when everything that could go wrong, did go wrong,” Dods said.

“I looked at my watch when we were 3-0 down and it wasn’t even eight o’clock.

“One of the goals we lost we were taking the centre and it was in our net two passes later.

“We had a man sent off, which was harsh, and ended up playing with nine men when one of our subs, Jordan Sinclair, had to go after being sick on the pitch.

“There had been no warning signs of a game like that. We’d been solid defensively and were creating chances up front.

“We have to make sure it was a blip and move on.”

That could be easier said than done given the fact their final Betfred Cup group game is against a Premiership side on their own pitch.

Dods said: “Hopefully we can get some positives out of the game.

“It’s quite a quick turn around after playing on Wednesday and it will be another hot day probably. We’ve just got to give it our best shot.”

Giuliano Morena is suspended, Sinclair is a doubt and Ryan McGeever and Andy Jackson are still out.
