Dens ace Glen aims to ignore transfer talk

Glen Kamara insists he is fully focused on playing for Dundee and will continue to ignore any transfer speculation linking him with a move away from Dens.

The 22-year-old former Arsenal Academy midfielder was a revelation for the Dark Blues last season.

Kamara was a virtual ever-present in Neil McCann’s team with his assured performances putting him on the radar of English Premier League clubs, including Wolves and Burnley, as well as Rangers in this country.

However, Kamara, who returns to the Dundee squad for today’s Betfred Cup game against Brechin after recovering from an ankle injury, admits he is simply looking to kick on for the Dark Blues. He said: “I’m just delighted to be here. “I’m fully focusing on playing for Dundee this season. If anything else changes, then so be it.

“It’s something that’s easy enough to ignore. I don’t pay any attention to stuff like that.”

Kamara added: “It was an amazing first season for me. I probably never expected to do so well. I was so happy for it to go the way it did and I’m just raring to go again.

“I came here to get regular first-team football and I was almost ever-present.

“Thankfully, I managed to get loads of games in and show what I can do.”

McCann has made several new signings this summer and Kamara has been so impressed by them to predict that there will be no repeat of last season’s flirtation with the drop zone.

He said: “There have been a few new arrivals. That means it will be good for competition, so nobody slackens off.

“I have been really impressed by the new guys like Kharl (Madianga), Elton (Ngwatala), Nathan Ralph and Jean Mendy who have all been really good signings. So I am pleased to have them on board.

“With the squad we have, I would be expecting to do better this season.

“I don’t expect it to go like last season and be in that same position.

“The team is looking really strong and I definitely think we can genuinely aim for a top-six finish. Personally, I am quite excited about the season ahead.”

Brechin were walloped 7-1 in midweek by Dunfermline but Kamara insisted nobody in the Dundee squad will be taking anything for granted today.

He added: “Definitely not. You can never underestimate anyone. We will take this game as seriously as any other that comes along.”
