Love was in the air, along with all the rain, when a couple got engaged during Rita Ora’s concert in Dundee.

The surprise proposal, organised with the help of the singer, took place on the Slessor Gardens stage halfway through her hit-filled set.

Liam McLean, 28, managed to persuade his partner of seven years, Aimee Cuthbert, that the pair had been chosen as competition winners to watch the concert from the side of stage.

Then, the pair were invited out front and centre, in front of thousands of screaming fans before gallant Liam got down on one knee and asked his shocked partner to marry him.

Aimee, who is a nurse at Ninewells, had “absolutely no idea” what Liam and her family had planned.

Global superstar Ora, who almost missed the concert because of a cancelled flight, has even offered to sing at the couple’s wedding.

Liam said: “I have been planning this proposal since the start of the year.

“I contacted Rita’s tour manager and we worked together to make this happen.

“We made my partner think we had won a competition but that was just a cover for the real plan.

“It was really nerve-racking. Fortunately the manager had organised for a bottle of prosecco for where we were standing, which helped calm the nerves.”

Liam, a singer-songwriter who performs in pubs across Dundee, said he would be adding a number of Ora covers to his repertoire from now on.

“Rita did say on the night she would sing at our wedding but we get she is very busy and that probably won’t happen.”

The whole proposal was captured on camera by city centre manager Sarah Craig.

Liam took to the stage with a microphone before popping the question.

He said: “I’m going to show to the whole of Dundee just how much I love you, babe.”

A shocked Aimee looked like she could not believe what was happening, before she promptly answered “yes” and the thousands in attendance roared with delight.

An excited Ora could also be seen leaping for joy in the background.
