Paris-based Ingenico Group, a global leader in seamless payments, is currently making a multi-million pound investment at its Dalgety Bay site.

More than 500 people work at the Northern Europe HQ in Fife - making it one of the Kingdom’s biggest private sector employers.

Ian Benn, senior vice president, commercial/enterprise retail, explained the significance of the group’s work: “Whenever you pay for something, the chances are Ingenico is involved.

“Ingenico produces payment terminals and a broad portfolio of software that helps make sure your money and your data stays safe, whether you are buying online, on a mobile phone or in a store.

“With over 32 million terminals running in more than 170 countries, we make it easy for you to buy with confidence.

“Our job as a global leader is to make sure the customer experience is always seamless, easy and secure.

“Equally, we need to help retailers to understand and follow the transaction, so that they can improve the way they serve you next time around.”

Ingenico’s roots in Fife go back nearly 40 years.

The Dalgety Bay base serves the UK and Nordics, as well as providing maintenance services for customers in Spain and France.

The senior vice president said it has become one of the strongest-performing divisions in Ingenico, with annual revenues of over £120 million and increasing employee numbers.

“Here in Dalgety Bay, we develop software solutions, configure, distribute, maintain and upgrade around one million devices every year to support the Northern European market.

“Our in-house operations service all the major banks and retailers and we distribute around 40,000 new terminals and a further 40,000 repaired and refurbished terminals every month, and manage around 60,000 customer contacts every month.

“When customers visit Dalgety Bay, they are not only impressed by the broad range of activities undertaken onsite but also that this makes us very different to our competitors who all outsource these services.”

Mr Benn said Ingenico in Fife has developed a number of new products and services currently in proof-of-concept, pilot or early field-trial stages.

The company has three premises at its Dalgety Bay location.

One houses the warranty and service centre (WSC), another deals with customisation and development (C&D) whilst the third contains office-based staff in what is affectionately known as the “orange building”.

“Significant investment in the last five years has already resulted in improvements to the C&D and WSC capabilities, and we are currently undertaking a multi-million pound refurbishment programme in the orange building,” Mr Benn said.

“When finished, the new offices will illustrate Ingenico’s fintech status and help drive more modern ways of working.

“This year’s multi-million pound investment in our Dalgety Bay site is evidence of our commitment to stay and grow.

“For Ingenico, Dalgety Bay provides a great mix of a very skilled technical workforce, without the huge operating costs that the larger European cities often drive. Dalgety Bay has a sensible cost base and great transport connections.”
