Cazzola signs up with Flyers and aims to soar higher

Fife Flyers have signed Canadian centre Mike Cazzola.

The Ontario-born star played for Edinburgh Capitals last season, playing in 52 games and scoring 14 goals.

Cazzola is relishing the move to Fife, saying: “I couldn’t be more excited to have a fresh start in Fife.”

“I know from experience what a good fanbase Fife has and I’m excited to see what this year has in store.

“I hope that I can help take the team to the next level and we can continue with the momentum of last season’s success.”

Head coach Todd Dutiaume said: “Mike will complement our returning forwards well.

“He’s always dangerous with the puck on his stick and we believe he will become a fan favourite here in Fife.

“We followed him closely last season and feel he has even more to offer wearing the Flyers jersey.”

Meanhile Dundee Stars have bolstered their ranks by bring in veteran Swedish goaltender Pontus Sjögren.

He joins the club after spending his entire career in Sweden, including some illustriou­s seasons in the SHL.

Stars general manager Omar Pacha was delighted to welcome Pontus to the club,

“Pontus has played at very high levels all his life,” he said, “He is a fierce competitor. “I truly believe we have a goalie that can make a difference on a daily basis.

“We are looking forward to having him in Dundee”.
