Teen who attacked fellow pupils told to pay them compensation

-

A teenager who assaulted two fellow pupils at Beath High School has been ordered to pay compensation to his victims.

Dylan Wakely appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court after previously admitting the attacks which left a 13-year-old boy with a fractured cheekbone.

The court heard that the 18-year-old had punched a fellow pupil after a school bag with spit on it was rubbed against him by the boy, which sparked the attack on August 22.

The victim required hospital treatment and was said to be left with a fractured eye socket and a bleeding nose.

Wakely, whose address was given as Natal Place in Cowdenbeath, also admitted punching a 14-year-old girl in the face following a separate lunchtime incident that took place at the Fife school.

The court heard Wakely had been throwing snowballs in the direction of a group of girls during a lunch break on January 22 this year.

The pupil was then approached by his female victim who challenged Wakely about his behaviour.

He subsequently grabbed the girl by her hair, pulled her and punched her on the head to her injury.

The court heard that the girl was left with a swollen cheek following the assault on Foulford Road.

Sheriff Simon Collins QC ordered the teenager to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and placed him under 12 months of supervision.

He also ordered Wakely, who has since left the school and started an apprenticeship scheme, to pay each of his victims £150 in compensation within the next 10 months.
