Patient’s family makes generous donation to Victoria Hospital

-

Victoria Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit in Kirkcaldy has received a significant donation from the family of a woman previously in their care.

Isobel Chapman, who lived in Dunfermline, was admitted to the Victoria Hospital in April 2017 and died in the intensive care unit.

A sum of around £1,300 was raised following a collection at Mrs Chapman’s funeral and her family chose to donate the sum to the ICU.

Mrs Chapman’s husband Alan explained the unit was chosen because the “caring and dedicated” nursing care his wife received was greatly appreciated by the family and everyone who knew her.

During discussions with Mrs Chapman’s family on how the money could be best used, it was mentioned that Mrs Chapman felt a great benefit from using an exercise bike at home.

It was then agreed the donation would be used to assist in the purchase of a Motomed system – a piece of exercise equipment specifically designed for bed-bound patients.

The system aids the physiotherapy team and can offer supplementary treatments to those who require it.

Speaking after receiving the new equipment, ICU senior charge nurse Duncan Ford said everyone at the hospital was humbled by the family’s actions.

He said: “The whole ICU team are incredibly grateful to Mr Chapman and his family for their extremely generous donation.

“The new equipment will enhance the treatment that we can offer and will benefit a great many patients in the months and years to come.”
