Funding for free IT courses

-

Glenrothes Area Residents Federation (GARF) has been thrown a £5,760 lifeline from the Kingdom Shopping Centre to safeguard its IT skills project.

The funding means GARF can continue to promote digital inclusion in Glenrothes and surrounding areas.

Leslie Bain, correspondence secretary, said the group was delighted to receive the financial backing of centre bosses.

“Without the funding, we would not have been able to have continued with our efforts,” he added.

The IT project is targeted at people aged 50 and over and teaches them new skills on computer, tablet and mobile phone.

GARF is a tenant of the Kingdom Shopping Centre.

Alan Plenty, who has completed a number of free IT courses with the federation over the past year, said it made a huge difference to people’s skills levels.

“I have felt a real benefit in attending IT courses at GARF,” he said.

“They have improved my confidence in using new computers and my understanding of safety in technology.”

The free courses are run Monday to Wednesday and can be delivered in smaller groups of up to four, or in one-to-one sessions.

Anyone aged 50 and over who is interested in attending the courses can contact Kirsty Bain on 07919193498 or pop into GARF at the Kingdom Shopping Centre.
