A 37-year-old man was stabbed in a daylight attack in Dundee yesterday.

Police were called to the Hilltown around 4.10pm following the incident.

Witnesses claim an argument between two men led to one pulling a knife on the other.

Officers were seen racing through the Wellgate Centre in pursuit of the suspected attacker.

Detective Sergeant Graeme Wishart from Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “At about 4.10 this afternoon police received a report of a male being stabbed on the Hilltown at its junction with

Victoria Road.

“A 37-year-old male was injured and has been conveyed to hospital by ambulance, where his treatment is still ongoing.

“The full extent of his injuries is not known, but his condition is not believed to be life threatening.”

DS Wishart added: “We are still trying to establish the full set of circumstances and the individual who was responsible for the assault.”

He said the area would have been busy with pedestrians and motorists at the time and urged anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam footage that might assist inquiries, to contact police on 101.

DS Wishart said: “We believe this is an isolated incident. It has happened in broad daylight so we are pretty sure there will be people who have seen the incident, and want them to come forward.”

Police taped off a large area at the foot of the Hilltown while forensic investigations began.

Offices were also stationed at the front entrance to the Wellgate Centre following the incident.

It is understood a man was arrested on Panmure Street a short time afterwards, but it is not known at this stage if the two incidents are connected.

One witness said: “We just came out the Wellgate and saw all the police.

“We heard on the police radio they had got someone in Panmure Street.

“Someone said there had been an argument in the street and someone just pulled out a knife and stabbed him.”

Another woman said: “We didn’t see what happened but about five police ran down through the Wellgate.”

Police were also reviewing CCTV footage belonging to the Genie Tech shop at the bottom of the Hilltown.
