Man admits punching partner on head and pinning her to wall

-

A Fife man has admitted attacking his partner.

Barclay Denholm, 50, of Paterson Lane, Cowdenbeath, admitted assaulting the woman by punching her on the head, pinning her body against a wall and throwing household objects at her.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard the offences happened at an address in Cowdenbeath, on October 7 last year after the couple had been drinking at a pub in the town.

Depute-fiscal Azrah Yousaf said Denholm had gone to get something to eat while his partner went home.

She was asleep by the time he got back but she woke up and the pair began arguing.

“He said he didn’t want to talk and punched her on the eye,” said the depute-fiscal.

“She fell to the floor. “When she got up he pinned her against the wall then started throwing household items at her. She could see she was bleeding.”

The woman went to the police station the following morning to report she had lost her phone.

“She had a black eye and a badly swollen cheek,” added the depute-fiscal.

“As a result, police called for an ambulance.”

The court was told the woman received a text message, seen by officers, from the accused which said “I wanted to kill you and could have”.

When interviewed by police, Denholm admitted hitting her and said he had used a towel to stem the bleeding.

Solicitor Roshni Joshi said: “He appreciates this is a serious offence but it would appear to be a one-off.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and Denholm will be sentenced on August 29.
