Plenty on offer in Lintrathen waters

-

LINTRATHEN continued to provide fine sport this past week with some good hardfighting fish.

Several anglers have had their lines broken by their would-be catches, mainly along the Rhoddies and Smarts Bay areas.

The top end and behind the Island remains out of bounds due to the very low water levels. Newtyle and Meigle AC had four boats and landed 25 fish at 56lb 5oz.

Lochgelly AC with three boats had 19 fish for 36lb 4oz. First place went to Ian Wilson with four fish for 8lb 10oz.

Visitor M Mann had four fish for 13lb 10oz, the heaviest fish being 7lb 2oz, a return visit saw him net four for 8lb 4oz and three returned.

G Anderson and partner had five fish for 12lb and one returned.

S Fraser and G Bannister, on an evening session, had nine fish, all returned.

Holiday season means fewer clubs visiting but a bonus is that the anglers coming up for the salmon (and not finding any) are moving on to RESCOBIE

LOCH for a bit of sport. The club that did visit this week was Blairgowrie and Rattray AC who went out on Sunday with seven rods and caught 15 Rainbows for 41lb 15oz.

Last month’s heaviest fish winner was a Brownie of 8lb 14oz taken by Alan Beattie.

The heaviest fish of the month so far, and hence on the board, was taken by Bob Henderson with a Brownie of 5lb 8oz on Friday.

The recent rain has been very welcome at FORBES OF KINGENNIE and water levels in the pools are back to normal. Water temperature has also eased slightly, which should help catches.

The Boathouse Pool was again the most productive with most anglers catching a reasonable number of fish.

Grant Burnett returned eight; Ian Barlow released seven including a superb rainbow estimated at 12lb.

On the Burnside Pool the better results were achieved by using a variety of flies and methods.

Ian Gordon returned eight, Peter Thomson released seven and Ian Barlow returned six.

Dries (Shipmans, Sedge patterns), buzzers (olive or red/black) and small lures (damsel patterns) were the best options.

The Bankside Pool will be reopening on Saturday after maintenance on the dam wall.

The pond has been restocked with some lovely big fish and blues ready for catching. Prices start from £10 for four hours catch and release.

MONIKIE is slowly getting back to form but water temperatures are still on the high side and fly life is minimal at present. Having said that anglers prepared to do down with Di5 and Di7 lines are getting some sport.

Noted returns include A Murray and A Strachan on Island Pond keeping five for 9lb and returning seven, I McLean and G McRither on Island Pond returning all five caught and K Giblin and B McLellan on Island Pond keeping seven for 12lb 4oz.

Successful flies include Orange Blob, Silver Invicta, Silver Cormorant and Yellow Dancer.
