Volunteering ‘superstars’ given surprise holiday for their efforts
A husband and wife volunteering duo have been given a surprise holiday in recognition of their selfless efforts.
Harry and Suzanne Wight and their four children spent a week together at Shell Bay, courtesy of Abbeyford Leisure, after picking up prizes at Fife Voluntary Action’s Awards.
The couple both volunteer with groups in Levenmouth.
Suzanne, who won the volunteer of the year award, started by helping at a cooking group run by Fife Gingerbread project, the Gateway.
The group now runs autonomously thanks to her leadership. She has also been the driving force in the resurrection of the Methilhill Gala and has been a buddy to two lone parents.
Harry picked up the active volunteer award for his efforts to set up Levenmouth Cycle Club and establish links with other local organisations to bring families together and reduce isolation.
David Evans, chairman of Abbeyford Leisure, said he had been delighted to recognise the pair’s achievements.
“The couple’s personal journey and range of volunteering work serve as an inspiration to us all,” he said.
The surprises did not end with Abbeyford as members of business network group Fife Networking donated items to make the family’s holiday special, including spending money and a photo shoot.
Fife Gingerbread chief executive Rhona Cunningham described Harry and Suzanne as “superstars” and said their holiday had been “so well deserved”.
“A big thanks to Abbeyford Leisure for their amazing gesture,” she said.
