Lib Dems urge review of upskirting convictions
The Scottish Liberal Democrats have called for laws on upskirting to be reviewed after figures revealed an average of only around three convictions a year since the offence was introduced eight years ago.
Liam McArthur MSP has written to Lord Advocate James Wolff to raise concerns about the statistics.
He said: “If this news means that the offence is being committed as infrequently as these figures suggest this would, of course, be very welcome.
“However, this would seem to be somewhat counterintuitive and rather suggests that there may be some procedural or legal obstacle preventing a more representative number of cases being brought forward and disposed of by the courts.”
