Comic book characters and Peter Pan among highlights
Peter Pan, Desperate Dan, Oor Wullie and Peter Rabbit are just some of the children’s favourites to star in the new VisitScotland map.
Dundee, of course, is home to classic comic book characters in publications such as The Dandy and The Beano.
The Desperate Dan and Oor Wullie statues in the city centre are already popular destinations for tourists, which is likely to increase after being included on the map.
Also hailing from Courier Country is one of the most famous children’s literature creations in the world – Peter Pan.
The brainchild of JM Barrie, who was born in Kirriemuir, the character is celebrated with a statue in the town centre.
There are also Peter Pan statues in Kensington Gardens, London, and Egmont Park, Brussels.
The character has gone on to appear in a huge number of films, cartoons, plays and books to become one of the most identifiable characters in children’s literature.
English-author Beatrix Potter was inspired to write and illustrate The Tale of Peter Rabbit after a trip to Dunkeld and Birnam, Perthshire.
Birnam Arts Centre houses a Beatrix Potter Exhibition, showing how the area inspired the creation of the classic book.
