Positive week as Tay anglers land 80 fish

More favourable conditions on the River Tay saw around 80 salmon recorded, making it a positive week.

Most beats had some sport on the lower river.

Lower Redgorton had a good week with 11, while Upper Redgorton and Fishponds had five between them with the Junior Malloch winners having success on Monday.

Five youngsters took part on the day at Fishponds following their individual achievemen­ts the previous year being recognised by organiser Fishpal and contributo­rs MacKenzie fly rods and Caledonia Fly Company.

Benchil produced fish on the fly for Danny Fulton and John Morrison and Upper Scone had fish from Pitlochrie and Benchil

Burnmouth reported a single fish as did Taymount with four coming off Stobhall. Ballathie had eight fish for the Gold party.

Cargill had four for the week with Graham Turner landing a lovely 15lb fish on the fly and Tony Clements catching a grilse.

Islamouth caught nine with the David Mayhew and Antony Scott-Hopkins parties all gaining success on the fly.

The middle river had a few fish with K er cock seeing four, including a 20lb fish for Mark Torrance.

The Murthly beats had four between them and a single fish came off Newtyle. Dunkled House had a couple as did Dalmarnock, while Lower Kinnaird had three up to 15lb caught on fly.

The upper river had three fish reported from Upper Farleyer and, up on the Fillan, the Strathfill­an Angling Club reported a single fish.

The Tummel is seeing fish continue on their journey now with more than 2,040 fish through the ladder.
