Goals will come from Moussa and me, says Mendy

-

Frontman Jean Mendy believes the solution to Dundee’s lack of goals already exists at Dens.

The misfiring attack drew a blank for the second league game running on Saturday against Aberdeen.

The Dark Blues’ only goal so far in the Premiership came from midfielder Elton Ngwatala.

A potential transfer involving Shrewsbury Town striker Sam Jones fell through earlier this week.

Dundee boss Neil McCann has been linked with a move for prolific Ayr hitman Lawrence Shankland, who will line up for the Honest Men at Dens tomorrow in the Betfred Cup.

Mendy, who missed a good opportunity to score in the second half against the Dons, says it is only a matter of time before he and strike partner Sofien Moussa start hitting the back of the net on a regular basis.

The 28-year-old said: “I am used to playing with another striker and I think it is good between Moussa and me.

“He is a strong striker and the ball goes up to him, I can play around him and we are working well.

“We will work together more and more and get better.”

He added: “What we have to do is get scoring and that will give us more confidence.

“We haven’t scored now in two games but we will keep going, continue to work to make sure we do get goals.

“The next chance is what is important.

“So far we have played well with good football.

“Of course, it can be better and you know to win games we need to score.

“But if you are good or bad, what is important is that you look ahead and be ready for the next game.”

Before his move to Dundee, Mendy had played most of his football in France, Belgium and Scandinavia and he says he is still becoming accustomed to the game in this country.

He said: “Scottish football is physical but football is like this everywhere.

“In football now you have to run a lot – that is the game now.

“It is a good league here and I think there are good players in it and at our team.”

Meanwhile, Dundee have teamed up with FirstPoint USA to help support players who have been released by the club’s youth system.

The Dark Blues will be the company’s official American University scholarship partner.

FirstPoint USA will provide “free guidance” to the Dark Blues’ released academy players under its welfare initiative, securing places at US colleges and universities on “soccer scholarships”.

The partnership creates a “pathway to the United States,” according to FirstPoint.

The deal will see help and support provided “at no cost to the athlete, their family or the club”.

The American business stated: “At the point that those players are leaving Dundee FC, we will meet and discuss the options with them about possibly making the move to the US and playing their sport there.

“We’ll help them every step of the way in sourcing them the best possible deal.

“We’ll find the scholarship that’s the ‘right fit’ for them, that will take them to America, keep them in the game, keep them playing and will get them that all-important university degree that will set them up for life.”
