Exciting times as promoter eyes city

-

Hopes were always high that the opening of V&A Dundee would have a considerable halo effect. It may be more than three weeks until the museum opens its doors, but already there are positive signs of just such an impact.

Geoff Ellis has a considerable track record of staging successful, large-scale events and the fact that his gaze is being turned toward this part of the world once more will doubtless be welcomed by many.

T in the Park may have run its course, but there are clearly other opportunities to be explored.

Concerts at Slessor Gardens have been a massive success for Dundee, being enjoyed not just by those attending but also local businesses which have reaped significant benefits.

First on the agenda for Mr Ellis’s DF Concerts is, of course, the 3D Festival, which will help to herald the opening of V&A Dundee.

However, it could be just the start of a long and lucrative association with the area.

Today, Mr Ellis tells this newspaper his company is keen to stage more large-scale concerts in the city.

He clearly sees huge potential, stating he would “like to do something fresh”.

It is another welcome vote of confidence in Dundee. Everyone with the city’s best interests at heart has a rare opportunity to capitalise.
