See what’s on the screen

There’s nothing better than grabbing some popcorn and cosying up to watch a film during the autumn months. Luckily, Fife becomes home to two film festivals this season, offering a range of movies to suit all tastes. The film programme for Dunfermline’s Outwith Festival (Sep 5-9) includes screenings of The Red Shoes, Incredibles 2, TDF Shorts and more. While in St Andrews they are saying ‘bonjour’ to the UK’s French Film Festival (Nov 2 & 9).

Seasonal feasts

It’s the time of year when food takes centre stage. Balgove Food Markets (Sep 18) brings together the freshest produce and street food in the region. They also host a festive edition (Dec 11) complete with mulled wine and a visit from Santa. Another foodie market, St Monans’ Bowhouse Food Weekends (Sep 8-9 & Dec 8-9), offers the best of Scotland’s seasonal food and drinks with a chance to buy something for your Christmas dinner.

Festive cheer

Add a bit of song and dance to your week by heading along to one of the music and theatre events in Fife. Scottish heroes The Proclaimers land in Dunfermline on Nov 15; they’ll be bringing all their hits and a walk 500 miles through their back catalogue. Or if you’re looking for a night out with the girls then catch the musical Girls Night Oot! (Oct 13) or The Lady Boys of Bangkok in Kirkcaldy (Aug 30-Sep 1) for oodles of fun.

Laugh yourself warm

With the Edinburgh Fringe out of the way for another year, it looks like the best comedians are taking their shows around the country. Eighties heartthrob Jason Donovan hits up Dunfermline (Sep 12) with his conversational show about having a midlife crisis. Comedian Jason Byrne then follows him to the same venue (Oct 27) with his live comedy show You Can Come In, But Don’t Start Anything.

Pantomime Season

Pantos are a fun, festive tradition perfect for all the family. In Dunfermline, the Alhambra is putting on Sleeping Beauty (Dec 7-29) with Taggart’s Billy Mack in the lead role. While over at the Lochgelly Centre Hansel & Gretel (Nov 28-Dec 1) and Jack and the Beanstalk (Dec 18-20) will be entertaining audiences. Finally, in Kirkcaldy Beauty and the Beast (Dec 6-Jan 5) at the Adam Smith Theatre will have you screaming ‘he’s behind you!’ louder than the kids.
