- SARAH VESTY

A brave Fife girl who touched the hearts of thousands of people has tragically lost her battle with leukaemia.

Darci Jackson passed away on Friday evening with her devoted family by her side in Saudi Arabia. The six-year-old, originally from Kirkcaldy, battled the aggressive disease from the age of two and suffered a heartbreaking relapse last week.

Her loved ones launched a GoFundMe campaign to try to pay for potentially lifesaving treatment in America and this raised more than £50,000 in less than

24 hours.

But Darci, described as a “superhero” by her parents, sadly lost her fight for life just days after doctors found her latest chemotherapy treatment had failed.

The family of a brave Fife girl who tragically lost her battle with leukaemia have paid tribute to their “superhero”.

Darci Jackson died on Friday night just days after doctors discovered her treatment for the aggressive disease had failed.

The six-year-old’s parents, Graeme and Amanda, launched a $1 million fundraising campaign to try to pay for potentially life-saving treatment in America.

The “feisty” schoolgirl’s plight quickly went viral and more than £50,000 was raised in less than 24 hours.

But Darci tragically passed away on Friday night in Saudi Arabia where the family emigrated to three years ago. They now plan to bring her back home to Kirkcaldy.

A tribute from the Jackson family said: “It is with utter devastation that we have to announce that our beautiful baby daughter Darci passed away last night, may her wings fly with the angels.

“Our lives are shattered, we are utterly devastated and no words can explain how we feel right now.

“We have a massive hole in our hearts and we have no idea how we are going to cope with the pain that we are suffering, it’s our cross to bear, with the knowledge that our beautiful baby girl is no longer suffering.

“Everyone who knew her will tell you how she was such a caring, feisty, brave, courageous strong willed and fun loving little girl. She will always be our superhero.

“She was our world with her brother and sister and made an impact on so many others in her six short years in this world. We miss her so much and love her more than words can say.

“Yesterday she deteriorated very quickly, the second relapse had taken over her little fragile body, however in Darci style, as she has always done over the last three and a half years, she put up one hell of a fight.

“As parents watching her battle for her life was torture, in the end she could no longer take the pain, she had suffered enough, more than any child should.

“We are so devastated to lose her but know she is no longer suffering from the horrible disease.

“We really thought she was going to battle through this relapse like she always had, she would have been super proud at the outstanding support and funds raised over the last couple of days but it was not to be, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to who donated — it will be refunded.

“We will be returning to Scotland as soon as we can to lay her to rest and bring her back to where she belongs.

“Our hearts are broken, Amanda, Graeme, Daniel and Sienna xxx”

Darci was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia when she was just two years old.

She underwent countless blood transfusions, scans, bone marrow tests and lumbar punctures.

The youngster had been on her last three sessions of chemotherapy ahead of beginning radiotherapy when she relapsed last week.
