Carstairs double gets Hearts off to flyer in easy win over Vale

-

Newcomers Kelty Hearts posted a highly impressive 4-0 victory at Vale of Leithen to move up to fifth place in the Lowland League.

Two goals in the opening half-hour from Murray Carstairs and Stuart Cargill put Tam Courts’ side on the victory path. A Stephen Husband penalty soon after the restart made it three with Mathew Gay making it 4-0.

The best result of the day was Hill of Beath’s 3-1 win over Penicuik in the East of Scotland League Alex Jack Cup

Calum Adamson put Haws in front after two minutes.

Wayne McIntosh equalised before the interval, but second-half strikes from Michael Watt and Ricky Patrick earned the Fifers, who had Lee Reid sent off, a terrific win.

Jeanfield Swifts’ Alex Jack Cup exit at home to Broxburn United ended their unbeaten start to the season.

The visitors took two of their chances, through Conor Kelly and Alex Miller, to progress to the last eight.

The third successive meeting between Crossgates and Bo’ness proved to be an eventful game with the visitors winning 2-1.

The Fife hosts finished the game with eight men after Walker, McDonald and Swan all saw red. Stuart Hunter scored both Bo’ness goals with Kyle Brand replying for Primrose.

In the wake of Inverkeithing HS’s 6-1 first round defeat at Edinburgh United, Lee Richardson and his management team resigned.

A Scott Russell goal was the Fifers’ only crumb of comfort as they missed a last-minute penalty.

In Conference A Oakley boss Richard Fox was delighted with his side’s 2-0 victory at Arniston and the manner in which it was achieved.

The Blairwood side were comfortable throughout and created a lot of chances against very physical opponents. The ones they took were converted by Ryan Stevenson and James McAteer.

In Conference B there was little surprise over Dundonald Bluebell’s six-goal thrashing of bottom club Eyemouth who have now conceded 18 goals in three games.

Callum Smith hit a hat-trick with Scott Durie, Jason Penman and Archie Campbell the other marksmen in a win that takes the Moorside Men to the top of the table.

St Andrews were 3-0 winners over Craigroyston in Conference C.

The victory over manager Andy Brown’s former club at Barnetts Park was Saints’ first ever league win in the senior ranks.

Paul Quinn’s strike after 20 minutes was the only goal of the opening half. Jack Wilson doubled the score after 72 minutes and added a third in stoppage time.
