Hornets down Spurs to stay perfect at top

-

Watford extended their 100% start to the season with a 2-1 home win over Tottenham, who were also chasing their fourth straight win.

Craig Cathcart headed the 76th-minute winner to keep his side level with Liverpool and Chelsea at the top of the table.

Tottenham had taken the lead courtesy of Abdoulaye Doucoure’s own goal eight minutes into the second half, but the Hornets hit back.

Skipper Troy Deeney hauled them level and Cathcart powered home a corner to ensure Watford made their best start to a Premier League season.

A Romelu Lukaku double eased the pressure on Jose Mourinho as Manchester United won 2-0 at Burnley.

Mourinho had shown defiance after back-toback league defeats and his players responded, despite the dismissal of Marcus Rashford.

Lukaku struck in the 27th and 44th minutes before Paul Pogba’s penalty midway through the second period was saved by Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Rashford was shown a straight red card for leaning into Phil Bardsley with his head in the 71st minute, but United saw the game out and moved up to 10th in the table.

Arsenal clinched their first away win of the season as they edged a five-goal thriller at Cardiff to climb up to ninth.

Alexandre Lacazette fired the 81st-minute winner for Unai Emery’s side after Cardiff had twice hit back to equalise.

Liverpool and Chelsea were made to work hard before maintaining their 100% starts on Saturday.

First-half goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino put Liverpool on top against Leicester at the King Power Stadium before the hosts hit back after £67 million keeper Alisson’s mistake.

But Liverpool survived and remain top of the table on goal difference from Watford and Chelsea, 2-0 winners over Bournemouth.

It took until the 72nd minute for Pedro’s deflected strike to give the home side the lead and Eden Hazard made certain of the win with his second goal of the season.

Manchester City are two points behind the leading trio after beating Newcastle 2-1 at home.

Raheem Sterling put City in front but DeAndre Yedlin equalised on the half-hour. However, Kyle Walker ensured Pep Guardiola’s side would claim the points with a long-range strike early in the second half.
