New play equipment for park
Construction work has started on a new play area at Dunfermline’s Public park.
The modern equipment will be situated between the trees and grass to the east of the bandstand and will be designed to appeal to different ages.
One of the features will be a “moo tube” – a talking tube installed under the ground that will emerge near the fibreglass cow sculptures.
The cattle – a nod to the park’s history when the beasts grazed there during the Second World War – have been installed thanks to fundraising efforts by the community council and will be painted by locals.
Labour councillor Helen Law, convener of Fife Council’s city of Dunfermline area committee, said it was an exciting time for the park.
“Fife Council has been working closely with the Central Dunfermline community council for some time to improve the park and new play equipment has understandably been a priority,” she said.
“The previous play equipment, which was installed in the 1980s, had reached the end of its life a few years ago and had to be removed.
“Through good partnership working, we’re set to see a fantastic new £240,000 play park.”
The development has been funded by Fife Council along with a £10,000 contribution from the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and more than £1,000 of public donations. It should be open by November.
