Older residents Go For Gold

-

More than 160 older adults have taken part in Fife’s biggest Go For Gold Games.

The event, now in its seventh year, encourages care home residents and other senior citizens to be more active.

Care home residents, day care centre users and participants in Fife Sports and Leisure Trust’s Active Options programme spent months training for the competition.

Forty teams came together to compete in a programme of tailored physical activities, including curling, golf, football, boccia, target throw and hooka-duck.

The sporting activities were followed by lunch, a sing-song and an awards ceremony.

Labour councillor Judy Hamilton, convener of Fife Council’s community and housing services committee, also attended the games.

She said: “This is always a stand out event for the council’s Active Fife team, who run the programme annually.

“It’s a tried and tested, and extremely fun way to inspire older adults of all ages and abilities to get more active.

“A little activity can go a long way in helping older people, even the frail, to improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life.

“I’d like to thank the care home staff for embracing the challenge as ever and hope that these activities continue to be a regular feature in the residents’ routines.”

First place went to the Active Options team.
