MONIKIE ANGLING CLUB waters are coming back on to good form after what has been a “challenging” season.

More than 1,000 rainbows were stocked at the weekend, which, given the cooler water conditions, should come on the feed immediately.

Arbroath AC had a great time last Sunday with many anglers catching. First place went to Malc Gall with nine trout for 15lb 12oz and second was Scott Reith with seven for 14lb 4oz.

Other catches included Ferry Fly Dressers Angling Club with nine rods keeping 11 fish for 16lb 5oz and the Dundee Hydro with four rods keeping two for 3lb.

Fishing is still a wee bit tricky at LOCH LEVEN, although algae levels have dropped by a fair amount and the water clarity has responded and it is slightly better at 1.2 metres.

The temperature is also now very comfortable for the fish at 15.5C.

The best areas have been east side of Reed Bower, open water drifts from the South Shore, East Buoy and North Buoy, with all holding fish.

Muddlers, dabblers and snatchers in all their various colour combinations are taking fish.

On the pike angling front there appears to be some movement. Tony McTaggart and friend Alex had 10 pike up to 15lb on various plastic lures.

Other pike anglers have had some success, even though things have been a bit difficult, but it just shows with some luck and diligence that pike can still be found and caught.

There was another good week at RESCOBIE LOCH.

Not many fish were caught early in the week, then visiting clubs found plenty. Brechin AC went out with 10 rods and weighed in 24 for 69lb 9oz.

The heaviest bag was taken by Kenny Craig with five for 14lb 6oz. The heaviest fish was by Barbara Anderson at 4lb 2oz.

Dundee East End AC only had four rods but managed to catch 10 for 26lb 2oz.

Heaviest bag taken was by George Hunter with three for 8lb 12oz, who also had the heaviest fish at 4lb. Lintrathen AC, with eight rods, landed eight fish for 25lb 4oz.

Balbeggie AC had a great day when the 14 rods returned 26 fish for 85lb 8oz.

August Fish of the Month winner was Allan Wood with a brownie of 8lb 4oz.

NEWTON FARM FISHERY enjoyed another busy week.

Water levels are returning to normal. Small nymphs, sedgehogs and daddies are doing well.

Top rod this week was Jock Leslie with 14 on C/R up to 6lb. Davie Black and Stephen Tattersall had 22 between them on spiders, shuttlecocks and buzzers.

The biggest fish weighed in this week was 12lb 2oz.

FRANDY FISHERY has been on top form.

Individual boat returns include Tam Melville and Jim Galloway, Blairgowrie, who kept 10 fish weighing 21lb, Bob Dick and Geoff Hemmings, Kinross, kept six weighing 13lb, while Richard Malkowski, Forfar, and Morris White, Montrose, kept 10 weighing 20lb.

Club returns include SPRA North, who kept 14 weighing 29lb and released a further 33, Scottish Prison Service kept 17 weighing 35lb 2oz, and Pencaitland A/C kept 37 weighing 74lb.
