Schools benefiting from range of summer holiday improvements
Improvements have been carried out across Fife schools over the summer.
Around £3.5 million was spent during the six-week holiday window, when Fife Council attempts to do significant work without affecting term-time.
Projects included reroofing at Beanstalk Nursery in Dunfermline, Carleton Nursery in Glenrothes, Falkland Primary and Balmullo Primary, while windows were replaced at Markinch Primary and Torbain Primary in Kirkcaldy.
New fire doors were installed at Pitreavie Primary and new fire alarms, ceilings and lighting have been installed at Hill of Beath, Dairsie, Lynburn, Sinclairtown and Caskieberran primary schools.
A new fire alarm was also put in at Tulliallan Primary.
Work to improve school layouts was completed at St Marie’s RC Primary in Kirkcaldy and Hyndhead School in Buckhaven; cloakroom improvements were carried out at Leuchars Primary; a new connecting corridor was built at John Fergus School in Glenrothes; and the technical block at St Andrew’s RC High in Kirkcaldy was reroofed with new roof lights installed.
Service manager Louise Playford said: “These improvements are already having a positive impact on the learning environment for our young people, staff, parents and community users of our school buildings.”
The projects sit alongside ongoing work on a new £4.5m community facility at Capshard Primary in Kirkcaldy and a £300,000 refurbishment of toilets at Lochgelly High.
The new £1.4m Pathhead Primary nursery extension was also completed in the summer.
