Man avoids jail for violent attack

-

A Buckhaven man who smashed his victim’s head through a glass window during an alcoholfuelled brawl has narrowly escaped being jailed.

John Keillor, 27, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Friday and was ordered to perform 210 hours of unpaid work.

He was also placed under supervision for two years after he previously admitted the assault to severe injury charge at an earlier hearing.

Keillor, of Factory Road, had been at a party in Lawrence Court on October 6 last year when he became involved in an argument with other revellers.

The court was previously told that Keillor left the property into the common stairwell but was followed by Adilson Hernandez. Keillor suddenly lunged towards the victim and seized him by the body before pushing his head against a glass window with such force that his head went through the panel.

Mr Hernandez was taken to hospital in an ambulance with a cut to the back of his head which required three stitches and four staples – leaving him with a permanent scar.

Defence solicitor David McLaughlin told the court that his client had acted “in the heat of the moment” and this type of behaviour was “not typical” for him.

Sheriff James Williamson imposed the community payback order but warned Keillor he was facing 18 months behind bars if he breached it.
