I have watched V&A Dundee progress over the last few years (along with everyone else in the area) with great anticipation, so was desperate to get a glimpse inside.

The outside is strikingly bold. The inside – it is stunning.

As you walk through the front doors, the lines of the building draw you in to the bright, warm interior.

The oak veneer and roofline initially pulls your eye towards the staircase, which then turns you towards the large public area.

It is deceptively large – huge, in fact – yet is a comfortable space where people will be able to meet, relax and enjoy the views and features for free.

Small windows on the staircase frame the view of the bridge and Fife perfectly, with benches built into landings so you can stop and enjoy the panoramic views (you may need the seat, it is a big staircase).

Once you reach the top of the stairs the public area is a mezzanine level with views over the public entrance and coffee shop.

This area gives access to the galleries, restaurant, auditorium and balconies overlooking the Tay and Discovery and is flooded with natural light coming in through floor-to-ceiling windows.

As I wandered round, questioning how to portray all I was feeling in an image, I thought “this is a really impressive building for Dundee” but soon corrected my thinking.

In fact, you could put it in any city in the world and it would impress.

V&A Dundee is a really, really impressive building. Full stop.
