Caledonian hosts show and sale of native cattle
Caledonian Marts Ltd, Stirling, had forward 396 store cattle at their autumn show and sale of native cattle.
The overall champion came from Major Gibb, Glenisla, for a Shorthorn bullock which sold for £1,000.
Reserve champion came from M Sibbald, Cowden, Dollar, for an Aberdeen Angus which sold for £1,200.
Hereford bullocks sold to average 202p, selling to 222p from Langholm, Campbeltown, and to £1,200 Cowden.
Highland bullocks sold to ave 159p, selling to 202p from West Bank, Ravenstruther, and to £930 from the same home.
Beef Shorthorn bullocks ave 201p, selling to 209p from Glenisla, and to £1,210 from Strathmore, Beith.
Whitebred Shorthorn bullocks ave 185p, selling to 203p from Union, Thornhill, and to £960 from Achadunan Estate, Cairndow.
Aberdeen-Angus bullocks ave 201p, selling to 226p from Glencraigs, and to £1,220 from Cowden.
Highland heifers ave 126p, selling to 139p from Ormsary Farms, and to £500 from the same home.
Aberdeen-Angus heifers ave 186p, selling to 196p from Balgonar, and to £1,200 for the reserve champion from Cowden.
Also sold were 3,692 store lambs, ewe lambs and feeding ewes.
Champion pen – Lord Roseberry Estate, Leithenwater £55. Second pen – I Malcolm, Cromlix £48. Third pen – Glenturret Estates £51. Reserve champion – Cromlix £51. Leading prices: Aberuchill Estates £49.50, Riemore Estates £48, Edentaggart £47, Thorn £47.
Overall ave for 1,624 Blackface lambs £40.22 (-81p on the year).
The Cross Section was topped by Coull Farm for a pen of Suffolk X lambs at £70.
