Auction with a difference will be held to help upgrade village hall

-

Lots from a lino print workshop to a sack of potatoes will be up for grabs at an auction with a difference at Letham Village Hall in Fife.

The event, being held to raise funds to refurbish the ladies’ toilets at the hall, will take place tomorrow.

Bidding starts at 7.30pm and there will be a chance to view the items on offer from 6.30pm.

A mixture of donations and pledges have been offered, including a voucher for Muddy Boots, an old school desk and an apple tree.

People can also bid for the promise of having something made for them, including a Christmas wreath, a box of cupcakes or a pavlova.

John Vaughan from the village hall committee said the response to the Auction of Promises and Donations had been a “magnificent effort by the community”.

He added: “There’s a real mixture of things to bid for.

“One lady has agreed to do a quiz night for us in November.

“Someone is making a Christmas wreath, and someone is making tablet.

“The local blacksmith has made a three bottle wine rack out of horseshoes.”

A total of 115 donations and promises will be go under the hammer.

An extensive programme of work has been carried out at the hall over the past three years. However, the ladies’ toilets are still in need of an upgrade. The cost of the work is estimated at £8,000 and it is hoped the auction till take the fund closer to the total.

Mr Vaughan added: “A lot of money has been spent on the village hall to bring it up to modern standards and this is one of the last things that need to be done.”
